Derek has been with Granite for 29 years and recently transferred to the Arizona Region as Vice President and Region Manager based in Tucson. In this role, Derek is responsible for managing all of Granite’s Arizona operations. Prior to his move to Arizona, Derek was the Alaska Region Vice President for 11 years. Derek began his career with Granite in 1995 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Management and a Minor in Business Administration from Oregon State University.

During his time in Alaska, Derek was responsible for construction and material sales. Throughout his career he has delivered over 400 projects totalling $3 billion. Derek’s career progression as superintendent, project manager, area manager, construction manager, and region manager provides valuable planning and management knowledge, project risk and strategy analysis, as well as contracting experiences. Derek works with our project teams to build and foster a culture of team­work with transparency, fairness, and integrity to make projects successful for all stakeholders. His strong leadership, extensive operational experience, and focus on execution will be an asset to the Arizona Region.

Derek and his wife Sherrie have two children – Mackenzie who will be attending Colorado Mesa University and Tanner who is currently attending the University of Alaska Ancorage.
